The Citation Excel was a landmark in the mid-size segment — the first Citation to offer a stand-up, flat-floor cabin in a light-footprint aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545A engines. Up to eight passengers could travel in genuine comfort, and the Excel's combination of stand-up headroom, wide cabin, and reasonable range of approximately 1,800 nautical miles made it an immediate commercial success.
